इतिहास काळात जी थोर माणसे होऊन गेली, त्या ऐतिहासिक थोर पुरुषांच्या मालिकेतून शाहू महाराजांचे नाव कोणालाही वगळता येणार नाही. राजर्षी शाहू महाराज लोकनेते होते. समाजाला मानवी समान संधीचे मूलभूत हक्क मिळवून देणारे ते थोर राष्ट्रपुरुष होते. अशा या असामान्य पुरुषाची जितकी चरित्रे प्रसिद्ध होतील, तितकी वर्तमान- काळाच्या गरजेस उपयुक्त ठरतील. आजच्या सरकारचे ध्येय समाजवादीरचनेचे आहे. त्यामुळे शाहू महाराजांनी शोषित, दलित व सामान्य जनतेच्या उद्धारार्थ केलेले कार्य आजच्या सरकारलासुद्धा मार्गदर्शक ठरणार आहे. शाहू महाराजांच्या क्रांतिकार्याचे संशोधनात्मक दृष्टीने सांगोपांग असे केलेले विवेचन, तसेच त्यांच्या सामाजिक, धार्मिक, आर्थिक, राजकीय, शैक्षणिक व दलितोद्धारक कार्याचा शोध-बोध या बाबी स्वातंत्र्योत्तर काळात महत्वपूर्ण ठरल्या आहेत; यात तीळमात्र शंका नाही. Nobody would dare to exclude the name of Shahu Maharaj from the list of the great historically famous personalities. He was the leader of common man. He was a great national figure who tried and succeeded in giving the human fundamental rights for equality to all. The biographies of people like him always set a good example in front of the tender minds of the society. Today`s government aims at socialistic approach. Hence, the work of Shahu Maharaj will be a guideline to it as he worked mainly for the betterment of the `dalit`, the exploited people and the common people of the society. His post-independent work in the fields of social, religious, financial, political, educational areas have been very important.
